Prescription: Pets
is a separate California nonprofit 501(c)(3) Public Benefit
Corporation based in Redding, CA. The specific purpose of our
organization is to enhance the quality of life and emotional health
of patients, clients and staff by visiting public and private
healthcare facilities, as well as other public assistance agencies
with animal-handler teams registered as
Delta
Society® Pet Partners®. In addition, our mission
includes public education regarding the impact of the human-animal
bond. Prescription: Pets
strictly adheres to the visiting guidelines of the Delta Society®.
Currently, our Prescription: Pets
program operates with a base of approximately 55 animal-handler
teams. |

As registered Pet
Partners® of the Delta Society®, our animal-handler teams visit as
volunteers, accepting no compensation for their service. Our teams
engage in animal-assisted activity (AAA) as well as animal-assisted
therapy (AAT). Our group trains, organizes and oversees the
animal-handler teams as they engage in activities with
patients/clients at various healthcare facilities. Though most of
our animals are dogs, we do have cats, rabbits and a miniature
horse. At this time we regularly visit fourteen facilities in
Tehama, Shasta and Humboldt counties. Each facility is scheduled
for one to four visits each month by one to six animal-handler
teams. Our future plans are to increase the number of
animal-handler teams and facilities that we serve in Northern
California. |
